Younger For Longer: Lil’s Insights

Hereโ€™s a summary of our conversation with Lil.

You’ve achieved remarkable results in our case study by significantly reducing your pace of aging after using NOVOS products. Could you share more about your daily routine and how you maintain such a health-centric lifestyle?

My commitment to an active lifestyle is deeply ingrained in my daily routine. It’s not just about finding time for exercise; it’s about structuring my life around prioritizing my health and well-being. My day begins around 4:00 AM, which is my time for self-care and mental preparation for the day ahead.

I start my day with a workout, sauna, cold plunge, or yoga before my kids wake up. This morning routine sets a good tone for my day. Throughout the day, I keep active. For short trips within a couple of miles, like picking up groceries or taking the kids to school, I use a bike with a trailer for the kids. We just try to move our bodies! After our meals, we move our bodies for 15 minutes. We have different bikes and even rollerblades to keep moving. I enjoy being active, and while I do some still meditation, I mostly like moving around, especially outdoors in nature. Right now, I might be on a treadmill, but being outside is what I really like.

Your proactive approach to health is impressive. How did your interest in health and longevity begin?

I had a problem I had to solve; I had gut issues I had to resolve. And because of that, I found a passion and interest in health and nutrition and, you know, eventually, longevity. As a baby, I had food intolerances that made my mom adjust my diet. Growing up, I suffered from seasonal allergies and constant sore throats, leading to numerous rounds of antibiotics. These experiences led to more food intolerances and health issues over time. To cope, I had to learn more about nutrition and make dietary adjustments, such as cutting out dairy in high school, which made a big difference for me.

As I got older, I discovered more intolerances, like gluten, and realized that avoiding processed foods and choosing organic options made me feel better. Initially, these changes addressed specific health problems, but eventually, I found that I was better off without certain foods altogether. This journey into adjusting my diet and understanding my body’s needs sparked my interest in health, nutrition, and eventually, longevity. So, in a way, my path to a healthier lifestyle was shaped by the need to solve ongoing health challenges, leading me to where I am today. I’ve been incorporating aspects of longevity into my life based on what I’ve learned from various health-focused podcasts like Andrew Huberman, Rhonda Patrick, and Ben Greenfield. However, joining the NOVOS case study was my first deep dive into a longevity-specific regimen.

I don’t want to deal with a lot of sickness. I don’t want to deal with those kinds of things. I just want to feel good while I’m here. And I’m okay if it’s not until I’m 200; I don’t need that

Dealing with such challenges must have required significant adjustments. How have your dietary changes impacted your overall well-being? Can you walk us through a typical day’s meal for you?

Initially, eliminating certain foods like dairy and gluten made a huge difference. Over time, I realized that avoiding processed foods and focusing on organic, whole foods alleviated my symptoms and improved my overall health. It’s about making conscious choices that benefit my body. The way I eat gives me a lot of freedom because if I deviate from it, then I don’t feel good, and that doesn’t give me freedom.  For example, I discovered the benefits of eating within a specific time window. Initially, I chose lunch and dinner, but then I noticed that eating late affected my sleep. So, I adjusted to having breakfast and lunch instead. Observing how these changes, like eating earlier, improve my sleep scores intrigues me.

My meals are predominantly salads, rich in greens, proteins, and healthy fats like avocado. I make sure to get enough protein to maintain muscle mass, especially as I age. I try to just really listen to what my body is telling me and make those adjustments. I could eat a standard American diet, but I choose not to because I don’t like how it makes me feel.

Since starting the NOVOS regimen, have there been any noticeable changes in your health or lifestyle?

Initially, the benefits of NOVOS were subtle. I only realized how much the products were helping me after the 6 months had passed, and I had stopped taking them. I instantly noticed that my skin and hair didn’t look as good, and I didn’t feel as energetic. This change really showed me that the products had been slowly but noticeably improving my health. Thatโ€™s when I decided to add them back!

Longevity can mean different things to different people. How do you personally define longevity?

I just want the time I’m living to be good. I want to feel good; I want to be mentally sharp. I want to be physically sharp. Unlike Dave Asprey, who talks about living to 180 or something like that, I don’t want to live to such an extreme age. For me, it’s more about the quality of life. I want to stay mentally and physically fit and be able to enjoy time with my kids and, potentially, grandkids. My goal isn’t to live forever but to ensure that the years I do have are lived well, without constant health issues. I don’t want to deal with a lot of sickness. I don’t want to deal with those kinds of things. I just want to feel good while I’m here. And I’m okay if it’s not until I’m 200; I don’t need that.

I just want the time I’m living to be good. Like I want to feel good,I want to be mentally sharp. I want to be physically sharp.

Do you have any advice for others, especially parents, striving to balance health, family, and personal well-being?

I think there’s a struggle being a mom, feeling like when you take time for yourself that you’re being selfish. It’s essential to recognize that self-care is not selfish but a foundation for a healthy life. By prioritizing our well-being, we’re better equipped to care for our loved ones. Embracing health as a journey rather than a destination allows us to adapt and thrive in all aspects of life.
