8 Powerful Anti-Aging Benefits of NMN | Longevity Science

best anti aging supplements on the market

As we age, our body’s capacity to repair DNA and maintain cellular vitality diminishes, leading to signs of aging and health issues.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) plays a pivotal role in this process. A natural substance in the body, NMN is essential for producing NAD+, a critical molecule needed by every cell.

NAD+ is crucial for countless enzymes and proteins, particularly those involved in repairing and maintaining our DNA and epigenome, such as sirtuins and PARPs, underscoring NMN’s potential in enhancing longevity and cellular health (R).

Benefits of NMN:

As an anti-aging powerhouse, NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide) offers several benefits that promote health and longevity. Below, we’ve listed eight powerful benefits of NMN to longevity and overall health.

1. NMN increases energy levels

Many people notice an increase in energy as a benefit after taking NMN. While 250 mg may suffice for most, some might need at least 500 mg to experience the benefits.

Research on older mice has demonstrated that NMN can significantly enhance stamina and endurance, with improvements of up to 80% noted from oral supplementation (R,R).

2. NMN improves memory

Many people who take NMN report improved cognitive function, feeling sharper and more focused. Research supports these benefits, indicating that NMN improves brain functions like thinking and blood circulation in studies conducted on mice. This suggests that NMN could help clear your mind and enhance your brain health (R).

3. NMN & healthier blood vessels

Another benefit of NMN is its impact on blood vessels. NMN has shown promising results in rejuvenating aged blood vessels, significantly enhancing their elasticity in older animals:

Old mice that receive NMN (ONMN) have blood vessels that dilate, as do young control mice (YC) and young mice that get NMN (YNMN). Dilatation of the blood vessels was considerably impaired in old mice that didn’t receive NMN (OC).

Additionally, NMN helps maintain healthier mitochondria in endothelial cells, which is crucial for cellular energy production and overall vascular function.

4. NMN improves metabolism

NMN enhances metabolism, which is crucial since our metabolism slows down as we age, leading to a higher risk of diseases. Studies have shown that NMN can help reduce insulin resistance, improve blood lipid levels, and prevent age-related weight gain.

It also boosts physical activity. These improvements are essential for maintaining health as we age and reducing disease risk (R,R,R,R).

5. NMN improves aging-associated decline in elderly organisms

As we age, our eyesight, stamina, energy levels, bone density, and immune function typically decline. However, studies involving older mice have shown that NMN supplementation can improve these aspects of health.

Benefits observed include less weight gain, enhanced metabolism, more physical activity, and better insulin sensitivity and eye function. NMN also positively influences aging-related gene expression, mitochondrial efficiency, and muscle protein balance, highlighting its potential as an effective anti-aging supplement (R,R).

6. NMN improves fertility

NMN has also been linked to improved fertility, with some users reporting a boost in libido. Research and biotech findings indicate that NMN and its derivatives can restore fertility in aged animals (R).

7. NMN improves stem cell health

Aging affects stem cell health, leading to a decrease in their numbers and function, which is critical since stem cells regenerate new cells and maintain tissues. Research indicates that NMN, by increasing NAD levels, can enhance the health and self-renewal capabilities of stem cells, offering potential benefits against the natural decline associated with aging (R,R,R,R).

8. NMN repairs DNA damage

One of the reasons we get older is because of DNA damage, and studies have shown that NMN can help cells repair their damaged DNA.

Specifically, in one study, mice that were given NMN had significantly less DNA damage (as measured by alpha-H2AX, a biomarker for DNA damage):

Liver cells in old untreated mice (O-PBS) had much more DNA damage compared to old mice treated with NMN (O-NMN). Y-PBS are young mice (alphaH2AX is a measurement for DNA damage).

In an experiment, irradiated mice usually experience significant DNA damage and a loss of red blood cells. However, when these mice were treated with NMN, they maintained higher levels of red blood cells than those untreated, as evidenced by their hemoglobin levels. This suggests that NMN can protect against cellular damage typically caused by radiation.

Mice that were irradiated and received a single oral dose of NMN (NMN+IR) had higher levels of red blood cells (measured via hemoglobin) than mice that didn’t receive NMN (Veh+IR).

Many other studies show that NMN benefits aging, often even reversing specific aging conditions in old animals to a younger state.
